In 19th century Europe, nationalism - as musical movement - emerged and was characterized by incorporating national musical elements such as the use of folk songs, folk dances or rhythms in symphonic works, operas or other musical genres. Inspired by this concept, this concert features orchestral works with strong folkloric elements by Dvorjak, Brahms, Bartok, Smetana and Hakim.
