Membra Jesu Nostri is a cycle of seven cantatas, as a meditation on the body of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The music clearly expresses the suffering of christ through a contemplation of Christ’s body on the cross starting with his feet and moving up to his knees, hands, side, breast, heart and finally his head.
